Ha! Over 1/2 of my bed has been covered with a floating steel plate. That part of the bed is flat and better preserved. The rest is dried and warped. I do have a large round hole cut into one of my boards where they put a pipe through it. It was through the joint in one of the glued boards and a piece is now missing as the glue failed. My truck was once a brush fire truck and appears to have had a tank in the back. They also put spacers under the headlights to point them down more. I suspect this was to counteract the weight of the weight in the bed. They did not put extra springs in the rear.
I have painted the boards with a mixture of mineral spirts and linseed oil. It has helped preserve the boards.
