Something I've always wondered about: Since you can easily deplete your aux battery through a lot of winching (or even a little winching, since a 9 or 10,000 lbs winch can draw 3 or 400 Amps or more at full load), how do you prevent your charging system from overloading that 10 gauge wire or tripping your breaker?
From what I understand, a 10 gauge wire should be limited to 30 amps. (Some sources say 20 Amps for a 15 foot run at 12VDC, to keep the voltage drop below 3%, though I'm not sure that matters much here.)
Is the voltage on a depleted battery still high enough to keep the max current at an acceptable level?
