On all my past old iron builds, I always wire the
headlight's thru a relay mounted up front near the headlights. This way you get minimal voltage drop to the headlights and remove
heavy current draw thru the ignition switch and headlight switch. This is especially important
if you ever decide to remove the old headlight sealed beams and replace with Halogen H4 burners which do draw a lot more current. Further I want to be able to command headlights on without the engine running. I can think of many possible happenings where headlights on even with broken engine may be very helpful
