I believe the "M" stands for military style
body rather than heritage but I guess you could assume that from "military heritage".
It was not a military vehicle by design or purpose but a few were ordered and used with the ambulance style body for some branches of the military for a period during, I believe, the Korean war. Any corrections are wecomed if I've erred.
