Clutch Housing Pan Half Moon ?

In the last forum someone had a question about a leak, can't recall if it was oil or transmission, but they mentioned a crescent-shaped "hole" in their Clutch Housing Pan. I've got a '42 WC-54 with the same little hole.

What is it?
