I assume you're just cleaning to paint and not actually repairing sheet metal or parts? Clean the metal, make any repairs, spray paint using Rusty Metal Primer #7769, and apply liquid rubber undercoating to the lower half of the door using the spray can for tight areas and the gallon can and apply by brush. Plug the door drain holes so they don't get sealed, you want those open.
