These spacers may be an option that will allow you to use the 3/8 stud while taking up the slack of a 7/16 bolt hole in the larger 3rd member. Once the housing is torque down, the unit should not move or work and that's what you want. Do you have a copy of the TM 9-1808C, Power Train Interchanges by John H. Zentmyer? You'll need it when doing the conversion.
