To fit the larger 9-5/8 diameter 3rd member into a 1/2 ton WC housing that originally came with the smaller, 8-3/4 diameter 3rd member.

There’s a reason dodge increased the size on the 3rd members from the 1/2 ton models to the larger 3rd member to take the abuse of larger tires and lower gears

If I’m gonna run larger diameter tires, I want the strength that the larger diff and larger axle shafts can get me
