I have a very early WDX with what I believe is an original seat with perhaps the original upholstery. Hard to say as I haven’t paid that close attention to the subject, but out of curiosity I took a look. It does appear to be a seam in fact and perhaps there’s confusion as the seam can appear similar to the familiar piping on most vintage upholstery. But I believe Clint is correct. I share the attached photos as support to the argument and for further input as to originality.
