Problem Found and fixed. Your never to old to learn new things… even at 67. Replaced the VRY with a known good one. Same problem. Decided to check the group 2 6 volt battery. Noticed the area around the positive post of the battery had a slight hump. Checked my records and it was over 4 years old. Decided what the heck, I’ll just go purchase a new one and see what happens. Had my doubts. Install the battery and fire up the 236. Needle goes way over to almost plus 35 amps, ten seconds later it starts kicking back down to the normal reading of maybe plus 2-3 amps. Hot dog.. I’m back in business. Put my original VRY -4202A back on the firewall and took it for a spin all is good. Double checked by spinning the starter motor with the key off for 5-10 seconds. Turned key on and started engine. Gauge went over to near 35 amps after a short time kicked back down to it’s normal reading. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions …they helped in solving my problem.
