There are a couple HUGE concentrated solar thermal plants in the Nevada desert on the way to Vegas from So Cal. It runs at less than 50% capacity, (sometimes 25%), because it is too expensive to run at today's electric rates. And it kills from between 3,500 and 28,000 birds per year.
It has been a huge financial boondoggle, BUT, those who built it and financed it had the best intentions. How much ya wanna bet that the taxpayers will end up paying for it?
