It's my understanding that much of the assembled body on the WWII WC's was done with gas welding. I was told one time that the frames under the fabric of small airplanes built in the forties was also gas welded.
It's not too hard to understand why it would be preferred on thinner sheet metal over the old larger arc welding rods.
Does it now still have any advantage over MIG or TIG in the "modern" world ?
