For really grease encrusted parts I first spray on a heavy layer of foaming engine degreaser, let it set, and then hose off with high pressure jet of water. I may do this two or three times in a row depending upon how solidified the grease and dirt is.
Next I either dip the parts in kerosene and/or apply the kerosene with a paint brush and scrub with either with a toilet bowel brush or wire brush (steel, stainless steel, or brass bristles depending upon the material being cleaned). I hose this off with high pressure jet of water.
Finally, I let the parts dry in the sun and followup with a good drenching with fast evaporating brake cleaner.
Works well for me.
