One of the things I have read is that the Braden MU2 winch is dangerous, but I have not read why it is dangerous or how to or how not to use it. I tend to think that most things that people have been using for decades and are labeled as dangerous are many times dangerous when not used properly.
I can attest that the Braden MU2 winch is dangerous. I was offloading the winch from the pile of parts on my recently transported truck parts, and rather than lowering it, I decided to toss it on the grass. Lowering it would have possibly hurt my back because the thing is so darn heavy and no matter much leg one uses, the back still feels it. I twisted at the hips to toss it and wham, my hip screamed OUCH at me. I don't think that it is serious because I have full range of motion without pain in any particular position, but it is going to be a few days before I can walk without crutches. And so far, I have learned that Dodge had a fixation on cast iron in the 40's. Would it have killed then to make the casing from aluminum?
