I can only speak of Virginia with last two i had with no title. Two things here first if the truck had a known title at one point. I had to go back all the way to the first person and get the "Original" death certificate, not a copy of and then follow the people involved or who had titled the truck all the way up the chain. Finally got it. Now here is the second one for me.....the truck with "NO" title or "NO" paper trail. I applied for a "Abandoned Vehicle" title. Careful here at least in Virginia because if someone along this trail pops up that had owned this vehicle at one time now has the option to bid on it at auction and get it. No one popped up on mine so i then took paperwork to DMV only to be advised i had to pay on Hagerty Insurance value on truck. In my case a fence row quality truck cost me $1300.66 before i got out of DMV. I know this was long but an example of how bad it can be to try and get title of truck that has none. I'm sure all states are different. Good luck.
