The molasses works. I have done it several times. I think it is better used on items which would disintegrate from heavy blasting. The process is an acid process but converts the Iron Oxide to Iron Phosphate, which is essentially what Parkerizing is. I didn’t read the link but found one key post-molasses and water soak action is to neutralize the process with baking soda. If you don’t do this, the reaction will reverse and rust will continue on the original rusty surfaces.
