Jerry, you touched upon a point I would like to make. Jim, I found a truck in 1980 that sounds very much like what you have found. Over the course of the first few years, I planned all different levels of restoration and/or upgrades. I was young and money was tight so I thought I would first spend time getting to know the truck and make a decision later when I was in a better position to see my dreams through. Here, 40 years later, I have spent a lot of time over the years working on the truck, performing needed maintenance. I have added period correct options but I have not changed brakes, engine, wheels, tires, the majority of the original paint, or anything else that would have taken anything away from the character that the truck had when I acquired it.
But more importantly, I have come to feel that I am just the current custodian of the truck. More so than an owner.
If you do not feel the same, now would probably be the most opportune time to sell it, just the way it is, to its next custodian and use the money to buy another that really needs upgrades to save it from the crusher.
