Not sure i can help a lot but here goes. I have had Power Wagons and M-37's for a long, long time and am well aware of the blistering speed. Talking about M-37's i am doing one from frame up now and am really beginning to love them again and as you said the ones with winch the best. Same sounds, smells and speed so possibly something different would be more fun. Also for me have been Land Rovers for also a long, long time. You have to create a complete new parts inventory, special tools and even mind set to work on these. I have done two start with frame Rovers both short wheelbase Series II over last few years and nothing is any better than learning how to buck the rivets in these and see all of the exposed body panels with all attach spot welds and rivets proudly standing out. Parts are getting hard to get now especially from the UK and parts like Warn M-11 hubs and Fairy overdrives are through the roof and things that make them special like original tailgates instead of rear doors might take years to find one. They feel so light to drive as compared to our Powers Wagons and this is welcomed when you need to get away from the Power Wagons for a break in them. Hard to choose between the Power Wagon and the Land Rovers as each is the top of its game back in the day. If you decide on the Land Rover MAKE SURE the frame and all outrigger brackets are a rust free or at least a easy, solid repair if not you are looking at a big deal to get and start from scratch with a new galvanized frame. Also with the Rover you will think you have gained new super human strength when working on them as every part is about half of the same part on Power Wagon.
