I expect the intake is for a one-barrel carburetor. If so, the following will be of no help.
I have a Carter BBD on the slant six in my '67 D100 and it does a great job(after I modified some AFB metering rods for use in the BBD). But the engine has been fitted with a later 2-bbl intake manifold. If the intake you are dealing with is a 2bbl, a new BBD can be had on ebay for less than $100. I put one on the 318 in my '85 W150 and it has been fine.
