I used both gas and diesel as solvent lately. Just a few ounces in a tuna can to wash gun parts. Left it to evaporate. They don't, neither one. They leave something akin to baby oil.
The prob w/ traditional gas in a diesel is it lacks lube aspects, bad on mechanical injector systems. But loooks like modern gas is pretty oily. Maybe cheaper to make it that way, or maybe now that gas motors have electric pumps and injectors, for lubricity?
