Not calling you a lier. There are certainly explanations for non-transmission between you and your friend (or perhaps you did get it and didn't have symptoms - tough old mechanics can be a resilient group!). A vaccinated individual could also test positive either through a false positive test (we've run some in my lab, they're designed to error on the side of caution), breakthrough infection, or if they did an antibody test instead of a PCR test (they look for different things and the vaccine will cause you to make antibodies just like the virus will). However, the pharmacist was definitely wrong. Placebo testing is only used during clinical trials. Never on the population. That's probably what they were talking about.
