I was checking some dimensions off my 230 flathead 6 last night, and I found the lifters diameters to be close to, or in some cases beyond the minimum wear limit specified in my M37 engine/clutch rebuild manual. The new part diameter has a range of 0.6235 - 0.6240", and the specified wear limit is 0.6225". My lifters were all in the range of 0.6220 - 0.6235".
The manual also specifies that lifter-to-bore clearance should be between 0 and 0.001", while my worn setup shows to have as much as 0.004". I can physically detect the play between the lifter and bore by hand.
The lifters are all perfectly round, and there are no steps or flat spots on the lifters or in the bores.
Should I try to find oversize lifters, and someone to ream out the bores, or should I just run it as is? I intend to put many miles on this engine, as it will be an almost daily driver.
Thanks much!
