I used to work for a man (I was the gardener) who had a '33 Duesenburg in his garage. Once in a while I'd sit in it and "just pretend". Quite a car; a rather austere front seat and instrument panel for the driver, but a fancy white leather and satin back seat with a roll-up window for privacy between the driver and passengers. Presumably anybody who could afford one didn't drive their own car. It had a huge straight-8 engine and a brake pressure gage, since Duesenburg invented hydraulic brakes. The owner told me that Duesenburgs were originally sold without a body and the bodies were all custom made by local body shops. The only time I saw it move was when the owner drove the Governor in it in the 4th of July parade. He claimed it was geared to go 120 mph, the fastest production car of its day. $1,250,000? Not a bad investment for him.
