It makes a lot of sense to persue an area of interest when assigned a project for school. The idea of producing a magazine based on posts from the forum will give you plenty of material, and you'll have the pleasure of composing something that is meaningful to you. That tends to make a final product worthy of a good grade.
There's a lot of knowledge and talent on the Forum, so don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
