Bed wood

I've found dimensions of the bed wood in other threads but have a question about the thickness in particular. How critical is the thickness of the wood? I read that it is supposed to be 13/16 but was wondering if it was 3/4' or 1" if that has any impact on the bed installation (of which I dont have the parts yet).
