Hello everyone,
I am a new owner and new to this forum. I found this thread looking for information about the same subject.
My PW is a 1955 and the transmission has a casting #C38711. Like many transmission of this era, the slot in the shifter ball is worn out and I can’t put it into gear. So I can’t drive it. I’ve been looking for the top for a long time, unsuccessfully.
The previous owner of my truck had an NP420 from a ‘63 M37B1 and he told me that his mechanic tried to install the cover of the NP420 on the C38711 and it didn’t work. I don’t know if it’s true or how competent his mechanic was.
However, just recently I called VPW and we discuss this subject. They told me that instead of just using the NP420 cover, replace the entire transmission. They also explained that some modification will be required on the floor panel. I haven’t done it yet and it’s on my list of things to do/try very soon.
I am wondering is any of you is using an NP420 on a PW and if so, if you can share any additional info.
BTW, what is FFPW? (I know what the PW stands for, but not the FF)
Thanks!
