I am not sure when the 4bt went to the ISB model. My 4bt is really early - either 86 or 88 and I just added 20,000 miles to a 44,000 mile block. With 105 hp it is underpowered in my Carryall - off road it is perfect, highway it will do 65 miles an hour all day long , but stick a hill in front of it and a full load of camping gear ( like 1000 lbs) the truck slows down on hills. I may go to a 3000 RPM governor spring and see if that helps. Milage is great but I would love a shade more power. I am running compounds, I suspect the power is now 115 to 120 . I am no longer in 3rd gear when I cross a intersection.
So we are doing much the same thing with our trucks except I do about 50% off road and have two transfer cases. The ISB engine might be the way to go, the Cummins computers can be refreshed and I hear are reliable.
