You might want to explore welding exhaust expansion joints over the cracked areas. They allow the expansion/contraction without breaking the manifold. If you have an engine block to bolt the manifold to, you could leave the cracks alone and just weld the joints to the manifold over the cracked areas using the MG rod or brazing. There are enough studs to hold the manifold w/o an additional apparatus. I think what causes the manifold to crack outside of heat is there may not be enough clearance at the studs for the additional expansion from additional heat. You may need to wallow the holes some.
