I'm not sure but I think Snap-on is the only one making their tools in the US now, but too expensive for a starter set
Dad gave me a 1/4 drive SK as my first set when I was 8 for me to use working on Brigs engine on my go cart and minibike.
He thought I would break the wrench before the bolts, I didn't understand not to bear down on some nuts.
Later I got a 3/8 set and finally a 1/2 all SK since he had Williams and SK-Wayne
I bought my own 3/4 set of SK in High School to have my own when working on tractors and equipment
I still have all 4 sets with some replacement pieces from loosing then in cavities of the equipment.
I think starting him with a good off brand 1/4 set to use and learn how to care for them will be nice, later when he is old enough and cares for them properly, get him a good set to build on
He is lucky to have a caring father.
I remember my first knife it was a Barlow.
Inside a dryer box wrapped in Sunday comics, with about 10 more boxes inside each other till I got to the last box, it was empty, the knife was laying on the bottom of the dryer box not even wrapped
