A Flatfender basement

So I want to widen the doorway to a daylight basement so I can get my FF into it. I need to cut back the concrete stem wall and replace the 81" 4 x 10 header w a 96" one. The span tables require the weight it would be supporting which I don't know. The house is only one story above.
Would anyone know if I can simply double a 4x8 or, better yet, a 6x6 to get the required strength? To get enough height I would even be willing to put in a steel I beam.
