Here is what I have more specifically. I have a 49 civilian flat fender and we are pulling the original power train to go the V8 route. I will be getting /receiving a complete power train, 318 V8, hydro bell housing and NP540. The set up is complete with everything and runs. I have the kit to use the original bell housing mounts with the hydro and need to know if the 540 will work with only shortening the jack shaft to the NP200 and doing some sheet metal work in the cab. I read the 540 to the 200 on the best of the forum but it reads like that is to the original 230 bell housing? We are applying this truck for farm/general off road use and the 7.41 would be good on hilly terrain with the big rolls of hay and the 5.83 diffs.
So generally the length of the trans from the face to the tip of the yoke is what I am looking for.
