It does require taking the brake drum, band and mount off. Compare the new gear to the old gear, if it's the same width, then you can install. If the new gear is wider, then you'll need to pull the retainer off to remove shims and adjust the tapered roller bearings. The problem is, there are 15 loose roller bearings in the driven gear that will either come out with the unit or drop to the bottom of the TC case. If they do drop, use a magnet to retrieve.
