Locking hubs were developed by Arthur Warn in 1948 in Seattle. They were an aftermarket item made to fit the flood of surplus Jeep vehicles at that time. The first patent is dated 1956. I am not sure when lockouts were first available for the PW, but obviously some time after 1948. You can safely assume that in 1949 they were not an option for the PW.
