Ok so, the original solenoid on the left works when I have the negative battery test lead clipped to the mounting bracket and the positive test lead clipped to the S terminal. I have high resistance across the main contacts though when the solenoid is engaged.
The new solenoid, which is a Standard SS567, only works when the positive test lead is clipped to the S terminal and the negative is clipped to the I terminal. It never works with the ground clipped to the mounting bracket.
The truck was originally factory wired for 12v boost on the coil at start up. I suspect I'll need a new ignition switch too and yes the wiring on this truck is terrible, to say the least! Ha..Ha!
