Searched a little, didn’t find previous discussions: Replacing a 1964 225 with a 1970 225 in a ‘64 D200. Keeping the ‘64 hydraulic-clutch bellhousing.
I was aware the diameter of the flywheel center-hole/crankshaft-end was larger starting in late ‘68.
But we also found that more relief is cut in the ‘64 flywheel to clear the interior of the hydraulic-clutch bellhousing. The ‘70 flywheel would not fit - checked a flywheel from another ‘70 slant six/4spd combo just to make sure.
Other than increasing the diameter of the hole in the ‘64 flywheel to fit the ‘70 crank, it looks like the best option is to use a 318 flywheel (which has the same dia hole as the ‘70 slant six crank), and deal with the one bolt hole that is spaced differently between v8 and slant 6 cranks ... ?
I had heard that a ‘70 slant six flywheel would install in the earlier hydraulic-clutch bellhousing. (Warning - Conjecture Ahead) Now I wonder if for the intro of mechanical-clutch/larger-crank-end slant six configurations, maybe dodge just honed out the earlier flywheel to fit until they used up inventory and moved to the newly designed flywheels. (?)
