new rear main seal on engine with 200,000 miles

OK Boys my sons daily driver 98 Wrangler with 200 plus on it had a mild oil leak from the rear main. To me it was fine but my son didnt like it. Its a 2 piece drop pan and cap to replace. He pulled it apart replaced it by the book. And you know it lasted a while then it dripped again. O PS he had the trans out before that and no other leaks found. I told him that there is more than likely to much end play with the miles on the engine. And if he does it again it will leak again. But he doesn't like that answer. Engine is quiet for the miles and has good oil pressure. Asking the college of Knowledge here for any ideas. Thanks Bill.
