A flume mill is a sawmill that uses a flume ( a large wooden trough) to send logs to the mill or sawn boards down a mountain side or slope. The flume is made of boards and supplied with water at the top and is used to convey the logs to the mill or boards from the mill. The use of flumes helps prevent erosion on steep hillsides and is also provides cost efficient transportation.
