Ive never seen an engine fail but lots of damage from too thick,& when in trade school (many moons ago) they taught us 10 -30 is not atrue 10 cold & not a true 30 hot. I run straight grade non detergent in the old un rebuilt stuff. If you are in a cold area & want to use a heavier grade, consider a oil pan heater simular to what Case use in their cummins powered const. equipt. A pre start oiler is great too to prevent damage on starting. My 2cents regards george.
