If the truck is an old 6 volt unit remember that Chrysler used positive ground. (something about negative ions versus the ground plane in the northern hemisphere or perhaps some British manufacturing logic...)
Putting a + wire on the motor wire will therefore just be a ground. I did that once. Thank god no one saw me do it. DUH.... If the heater's in the box and has been there for umpteen years, there may be a lot of oxidation on the motor commutator/brushes. Spin the fan by hand a bit then just hook it up to your battery charger and see if it runs. 6 or 12 volts won't hurt it. Polarity won't matter as it will run the same direction as it has a wire wound field. If not, gut the motor and clean out the crud. Install it and it will stop the running nose syndrome.
