So I have a 1960 WM300 with the 230 engine. I purchased the truck in May of 2019 and the history is unknown. I did a compression test today (no air filter, throttle wide open, and all plugs out) and this is what I got for numbers dry (cyl # to cyl #6, all in PSI):
100, 100, 90, 105, 120, 120
Repeated the test but put a squirt of 30W oil in the top of the cylinders and got these #:
125, 100, 90, 105, 110, 110
So according to the service manual cyl #3 needs rings or a valve job. What do you all think?
Also, its weird to me that #5 & #6 went down when the squirt of oil was added. I am wondering if this again indicates the need for a valve job.
If i need to do a ring and valve job is it just worth my time to pull the engine and do a complete rebuild especially with an unknown history?
Thanks
Glenn
