The "Gauge" is how many sheets it takes to make an inch. So theoretically, 1 gauge, would be an inch thick, 2 gauge would be 1/2" and so on. 8 gauge is 1/8" so 10gauge would be under 1/8"
I do not know where the cut off between sheetmetal and plate is.
