I've been running stainless steel beads in my tubes for about 8 years now. I use 11oz. per tire running combat rims and 1100-16 XLs. I didn't have the wheels balanced before adding the beads and they work fine, no hopping or shaking. I used a fish tank vacuum to add them in, and you have to feed them in a single row or they bunch up and jam. From a dead stop you have to get to about 35mph for they kick in and once they do they pretty well stay in place even at slower speeds till you stop again. They constantly balance the wheel as the tire wears so you eliminate having to have a shop balance the tires periodically. See the link for where to buy and the fish tank vacuum setup to feed them in. They will work under the valve seat so have a tire compressor handy to feed them back in when you check tire pressure if one does. I've been very satisfied how they work. Ceramic beads will break up over time so I would avoid those.
