Fuel pump bowl orientation?

Rebuilding my pump, my home made diaphragm only lasted 12 years.

Which clocking for the top/bowl? I've had them straight forward, and needed to use a 90 elbo to clear the front mount bracket.For the last decade it's been about 45 degrees. But the pics I see are bowl straight out from the block. Pros? cons?
