welding question

I am replacing the cutting edges on my V plow. The two pieces plus shipping is almost $400.
I also have an 8' Meyer straight blade plow. I was wondering if I can just buy a piece of hardened steel and lap over the existing one and weld it. I'm not sure if welding would defeat the hardening.
