On my 5 old iron Cummins repowers, I have always used the pusher config with a 16 inch electric fan. As you can see in the picture, all fans were always mounted on their own steel mount bracket I fab'ed. I would never use the push thru core mounting system that comes with the fan. Its a GREAT core KILLER.
I bought all my fans from Advance Auto, quality was good, never had a failure.
In actual usage, moving on the road, the fan never came on on any of my trucks. Get in heavy slow traffic and the fan would cycle off and on. I always mounted a small pilot light on the dash so I knew when the fan was running. I also installed a manual fan over ride switch in case the temp sensor ever went bad and would not turn on the fan.
