The gears hold up well, it's the bearing surface that become the issue and need for replacing certain gears/shafts. The sliding gears require replacing when teeth are broken. Tolerances are very tight allowing only a .0002 wear limit on gears/shafts before needing to be replaced. PIF has images of worn surfaces where gear teeth are still good.
