The only high load that they ever carry is when the old flexible speedometer cable housings become "bonded" to the cable housing due to rust and lack of lubrication. When the cable encounters high resistance the cable will break in two. This happened on the Power-Wagon that Dad bought new in 1948. I determined this what had happened when Dad gave me the PW in 1974. The speedometer gears in the transfer case were undamaged.
