The noise is not typical, especially for a '47 with a first series transmission. Also the noise does not seem to get better / change when in direct; (I think I counted enough shifts) so I would be looking at the input and output bearings. Does this transmission have a pto?
An important note worth mentioning and considering is noise can travel through the drive line. What may be found out is the transmission noise is actually coming from the transfer case.
If it were mine I would remove the intermediate shaft and run the transmission without any load; might see or hear something different. Removal of the shift top for some visual inspection would follow.
Good luck!
