Some information for you.
I was reading some past posts on early 1951 PWs. You made the comment that you thought that the early style bed was changed to the later style at the same time as the dash gauges were changed. The first truck to have new gauge cluster was 83922967 Detroit or the 466th built that year. My truck is the 1857th PW built in 1951 and it has the single gauge cluster (new dash) but has the early bed style with fewer number of boards that go back to the tailgate.
I don’t know if anybody, at this time, can pin down when the bed changed. There is no information, that I can find, in the parts list as to the rear bed valance or center hinge that would indicate a change.
