Five or six winters ago, a friends RAM was in the shop and I let him use my 56 FFPW as a daily for a couple weeks. During that time, we had some temps in the -35C range. The truck started every time. The key was the right procedure, two presses of the gas pedal, full choke, throttle cable out about 1/4. It would turn over lazy, but a 12 volt conversion since then worked wonders, the engine spins up with authority.
I've got another truck that is 6 volt, and have started it after it sat in a snow drift for months and once it primes itself, runs good.
That said, I want to put circulating heaters on them just for insurance.
Let us know what you come up with.
